Who Asked for Start Collecting! Eldar?

Hello my friends! Just a few days after knowing that Chaos Space Marines and Tempestus Scions are going to have their own Start Collecting! boxes... we discover find out that last week’s teaser about the Eldar is making sense – check out these new boxes for the Ancient Race!

Make way!

So last week’s teaser was a little out there:

“The Paths of the Eldar, Readers’ Models, and the Army of Death”

The Paths of the Eldar was a pretty broad topic because the Eldar have lots of different things that refer to “Paths” – it could of been reference to Paths through the Webway, Aspect Warrior Paths & Warlock/Farseers or the real world paths that the Eldar have taken to get to where their are now (ie the Eldar Sketchbook).

But it turns out it was referring to how a player starts on the path toplaying the Eldar. This morning we spotted an early rumor:

via Archibald_TK

“In case that wasn’t already mentioned:

– Start Collecting Eldar (3 Jetbikes, 1 Farseer on Bike, 1 Fireprism)
– Start Collecting Dark Eldar (3 Reavers, 1 Raider, 10 Warriors, 1 Archon)

The week after hints at even more pointy ears, without precising for what system.”

And now we have some visual confirmation to go along with it as well... Let’s do some quick math:

Eldar Start Collecting! Box
  • Eldar Jetbikes – $41
  • Eldar Farseer (on a Jetbike) – $33
  • Eldar Fire Prism – $49.50
Total: $123.50
Total Savings – $38.50

Dark Eldar Start Collecting! Box

  • Archon – $23
  • Raider – $37.25
  • Warriors – $29
  • Reavers – $39.50
Total: $128.75
Total Savings – $43.75

When you take a look at the math, they end up being a lot closer in Dollar amount than first looks would have you believe… The Dark Eldar one seems like a pretty solid option and follows with the same pattern as a few of the other boxes – a troop, a transport, an HQ and a Fast Attack/Elite. The Eldar option does seem a little light on the model count however. Sure, it’s still a playable force – a troop, an HQ and a Heavy option – But it’s only 5 models.

In the meanwhile get a look at Dawn of War III in this action packed pre-alpha play though!

Chapter Master Valrak gives as a look at the pre-alpha… what do you reckon?

Well, I reckon that's all for now from my part... Thank you for your time and hoping to write to you soon.

What's to Come: New Start Collecting Boxes and More...

Hello my friends! After about a week, or maybe more, without a word from me, I'm back to business... 40k is making a comeback in force! First was the Broodlord and the Tech Priest, and also the basing kits and the Crates... but now we have two new “Start Collecting” Box sets and Last Patrol is also coming!

Damn it, follow me. I'll show you how it's done!

Grab your wallets and get ready. Summer is here and the Grimdark is coming back strong with Lost Patrol and also two new “Start Collecting” Box sets for the Grimdark:
  • Lost Patrol Boardgame ($60)
  • Start Collecting Chaos Space Marines ($85)
  • Start Collecting Militarum Tempestus ($85)
Lost Patrol is no surprise as GW has been preparing to get it into wider retail locations for some months now. Here is (BoLS) rundown of the game:

Moraz III – a deadly jungle world filled with danger and fear, populated by ferocious aliens who wait in the undergrowth to pounce on the unwary and mercilessly kill anyone who stumbles across them. Even the plant life itself is malignant here, constantly twisting and growing in unnatural ways to trap its prey. A dropship containing vitally important surveillance files has crash landed on this hostile planet. It’s up to you and your squad of Space Marine Scouts to retrieve these files, activate the dropship, and hopefully escape with your lives.

Was that our get-away ship?

A fun and compelling two-player challenge, Lost Patrol is a boxed game set on a hostile jungle world full of sinister hidden danger! Players assume the roles of a Space Marines Scout squad and a fierce swarm of cunning Genestealers eager to end their lives. The Genestealers of Moraz III have every advantage on their home turf and will make every attempt to quickly dispatch the human intruders.

The Scouts will almost certainly all die. But how far can you get? Will you ever see the drop pod tile? And each game becomes a challenge to try and get further – and because you can turn games around in 10 minutes when you get into it, you can play loads of it, and swap sides and make it a competition with your mate.

I guess he was one of the previous players...

Inside the box, you’ll find five Space Marine Scouts, twelve Genestealers, six Infestations (the markers of imminent Genestealer appearance),thirty hex tiles and the full rules for play... Lost Patrol ships out on June 18th 2016! Check this review by The Dice tower:

Sam Healey takes a look at this 2-player modular-board strategy game where Space Marine Scouts are trying to get back to their drop ship through a tide of Genestealers, from Games Workshop.

The Start Collecting sets are more interesting, in particular the Chaos Space Marines. We have seen with Age of Sigmar that GW will often synchronise a new “Start Collecting” set with other reboxings and books accompanying the faction. I would not be surprised to see the CSMs getting some love very soon. So lets do some quick math for these boxes:

Chaos Space Marine Box – $85

  • Chaos Space Marine Terminator Lord – $24.75
  • Chaos Space Marine Box (10) – $39
  • 1 Chaos Helbrute – $54
Cost: $117.75
Total Savings: $32.75

Militarum Tempestus – $85

  • 1 Offcio Prefectus Commissar – $21
  • 10 x Militarum Tempestus Scions:
  • Command Squad Pictured (5) – $35
  • Tempestus Scions (5) – $35
  • 1 Taurox Prime – $48
Cost: $139.00
Total Savings: $54

Both of these boxes are going to be a great start or an addition to an already existing force. The Militartum Tempestus box in particular seems like a real deal – considering you get 10 Scions for $75, it’s nice to get the Taurox Prime for basically $10 more.

Next week the Eldar are up to something ... Check next Week’s Teaser:

“The Paths of the Eldar, Readers’ Models, and the Army of Death”

There is a lot to unpack here. Within the context of Warhammer 40K the “Paths of the Eldar” usually refer to the Aspect Warriors and the Warlock/Farseers. The one thing it wont be is anything related to the Dark Eldar or Harlequins who do not use the path social system.

Check more at Spikeybits

The Army of Death could mean many things from the Blood Angels all Death Company armylist to death themed forces such as the Necrons, or anything Nagash related in Age of Sigmar. We will have to wait and see on that one...
Remember last week's releases? Have you bought any of the Sector Imperialis Bases? Check this video...

BoLS takes a look at the new Sector Imperialis Bases and the Large Base Kit.

I think I'm going to re-base some of my Tau... And what about the new GW Gemstone paints? Have you tried any of those? No?! Here's Duncan explaining how to use them...

In this video Duncan shows you how to get great results with the new Citadel Gemstone paints.

And that's all for now. Thank you for your time and hoping to write to you soon.

What's to Come: Return of the Broodlord, Tech Priests and much More...

Hello there my friends! First I want to thank you all for, once again, the record breaking visits to this blog last week, that means a lot to me. This week we witness the return of the Broodlord and the Tech Priest kits, also we welcome a new piece of 40k scenery that will surely be pleasing to many people ... but the news around the hobby does not stop there!

When the grim darkness of the far future meets Japanese porn...

After two weeks of Silver Tower, it’s back to the grim dark! This brings us the Armoured Crates and two characters from the past – released as standalone minis:

The docks have never been so dangerous...
Next week's Products:
  • Broodlord ($40 €33)
  • Tech Priest ($30 €23)
  • Armoured Crates ($50 €40)
  • Hunt for Vulkan – Beast Arises Novel ($17.50 €15.95)
The Tyranid Broodlord is back and he brought a friend!

NOPE!

This is the same Broodlord that was originally released with the Shield of Baal: Deathstorm, under the designation of "the Spawn of Cryptus". It’s a cool model and a much better pose than the “Opera Singer Pose” Broodlord previous to that one. It’s nice to finally see he’s back and getting his own clam pack (even if it is pricey...). Quite similar to the Broodlord case, you may remember that the Tech-Priest model was first available from the Leman Russ Tech-Command box and is now available in a clam pack for the first time.

It’s interesting that Games Workshop would decide to bring these two models back. It makes me think they are probably sitting on a few other “Special/Limited/Bundle Deal Only” miniatures in a warehouse somewhere just waiting to see the light of day…

I'm looking at you Interrogator-Chaplain Seraphicus ...

So last week's teaser “Master of Machines, Lord of the Brood and Crate Expectations”is 100% spot on... now the one for the next week is far more mysterious:

“Antonius, Where are you? Antoni… Arraaagggghhhhh!”

Hmm, it sounds like someone gets eaten, but it’s impossible to tell what universe it’s occurring in. According to Lexicanum, the only “Antonius” around in a GW universe is, or rather was, an Inquisitor of the Ordo Malleus... here's his story:

via Lexicanum:

"Antonius Coil was an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor Lord, who discovered the location of the Dark Mechanicum Forge World Sarum; on the Warp tainted Imperium world Goleonda IX in 416.M37. After ordering an Exterminatus on Goleonda IX, Antonius gathered a strike force to destroy Sarum and finally end its threat to the Imperium. He assembled a mighty force composed of ships from Battlefleet Reductus, several Militarum Tempestus Regiments, and had aid from the Sons of the Raven, Celestial Guard and the Brazen Claws Chapters.

Again... nope!

However, when Antonius' strike force neared Sarum it was ambushed by the Warbands of the Warp Ghostsand Black Wings, as well as the Daemon Engines of their Dark Mechanicum allies on Sarum. The Inquisitor Lord was killed in the seventeen hour void war that followed and only the forces of the Brazen Claws and Celestial Guard were able to escape the strike force's destruction."

One can only wonder what is coming up... Speaking of what is coming up, the new Battle for Vedros is upon us:

First let’s get you up to speed with the basics of GW’s latest introductory game for the grim dark ... first with the new box contents:

Games Workshop's New Products from Battle of Vedros - The Starter Set & Paint Set!

The Battle For Vedros is going to be a really nice intro into the universe of Warhammer 40,000. For new players this is a perfect way to get started really quickly. It’s got quick assembly Space Marines and Orks – and if you’ve been playing 40k for awhile you probably recognise those sprues from Assault on Black Reach. While those miniatures aren’t the most articulate or unique in the pose department, they are a really good value... And the game itself has got simpler, check this video:

Welcome to How to Play: Warhammer 40,000 Battle for Vedros!

The Rules are simple – they are basically truncated versions of the core rules. It’s simplified down to 2 pages of rules (also a lack of the psychic powers helps cut that down). I show them off in the video and you can see what Games Workshop is going for. Marines hit on +3 for shooting and Orks hit on a +5 – it doesn’t provide a BS value or a chart, it just gives you a flat number. It’s a lot simpler to explain that to a new player vs showing the BS chart and going over how it’s all based on … you know what, I think you know what I mean...

For more information check this older post, and also here and here....

Also, remember that later in this month we will have the Lost Patrol game...

Soon... very soon...

Meanwhile, in the Forge World front, FW returns to Games Workshop stores to test the waters – check this out!

Word here in +++RETACTED+++ is that Games Workshop are looking to test run the selling of Forgeworld models in stores. I was informed by a store manager who was away last week for a staff meet up in +++RETACTED++, that they are looking to do a small test with the possible foresight of either stocking models directly in stores or making them available to be purchased through stores on the mail order and +++RETACTED+++. He mentioned to me about a Terminator model for 30k and said there was another model planned but files to mention what.
Well, if this turns out to be true, it's an interesting turn of events! Having Forge World directly in Games Workshop stores would definitely increase the “value” of going to a Games Workshop store directly. This would be a great competitive advantage for them. Folks who might not regularly visit an official GW store for their Warhammer 40k/AoS purchases would now have a really good reason to stop by (saving on shipping alone could be huge). I know I would be very curious to see what exactly they would be stocking in store... that might be great if I had acess to such a store here in Portugal thanks ...

About the limited edition figure... What do we have here?

Click on it to enlarge

Well it’s definitely a World Eater Terminator in Tartaros pattern armour with a glaive of some type, although his armor is not the standard issue. Is it a Terminator Captain/Preator? Or a named character?

Whatever happens, Games Workshop will be selling this FW model for sure. Get your wallets ready for June 25th!

Also from Forge World, and sooner, the Tau are about to return with even more (massive) guns!

The Imposing KX139 towers over even Imperial Knights... check more here!

Check the newest releases from Forge World!

Yes its a power claw... for a WARLORD TITAN!!!

I guess that's all for now. Thank you for your time and hoping to write to you soon.
