What's to Come... Forge World's Space Marine Legion Armoury‏ and More!

Just this morning Forge World released the new legion armor patterns (MK2 to 6) sets and there is also some tasty rumors doing the rounds: GW’s plans to expand the plastic Horus Heresy line and the return of the Wolves! Stay tuned!

True discipline: 1,000 marines... 1 toilet...

Just this morning I've received an email from Forge World announcing the release of the new legion armor patterns sets. Here's a description of one of the said sets:

  • This multi-part resin kit provides enough parts to build five Space Marines in MkII 'Crusade' Armour. The kit includes; five pairs of legs; ten shoulder pads; five left arms; five right arms; five torsos; and five helmets.
  • These components are fully compatible with plastic and resin Space Marine armour sets, weapons and upgrade kits.
  • Five 32mm round bases are also included. Weapons shown in some images sold separately.
Finally we can stretch your legs a bit on these new bases...

It seems that this release is merely a re-packing of the old sets, who now include the round bases 32mm. Either way it's good to note that Forge World hasn't abandoned its resin miniatures with the launch of The Horus Heresy: Betrayal at Calth ...

Speaking of the devil, there is some tasty rumors doing the rounds. Here’s the latest on GW’s plans to expand the plastic Horus Heresy line! Sources who spoke to BoLS on condition of anonymity reported the following:

"Sequel to Betrayal at Calth contents:
Assault squad sprue featuring packs and close combat weapons.
Legion Heavy Support squad sprue with a variety of heavy weapons.
Mk. IV Tactical sprues continue their appearance.
2 new Heroes are included.
Imperial Fists are involved in some manner.
Uses the same Betrayal at Calth ruleset."

So it looks like this is a continuation of the Betrayal at Calth series, but more importantly is becoming a vehicle for Forge World to roll out an expanding line of Heresy plastics. They could roll out 2 of these a year, and each contains the makings of 2-3 new kits/characters. These can later be sold seperately in boxes, giving GW has a perfect vehicle to spike sales as needed while building up 30K into a viable line with an wide plastic core set of products... Actually a smart move, if true...

But the rumors don´t stop here... it seems there will be a return of the Space Wolves but no, the Space Wolves aren’t shaping up to be a giant Tau sized miniatures and campaign book overhaul...

One of my favorite pieces of warhammer 40k art...

There’s a new morsel from the rumorsphere on 40’s next campaign book – And it stars the Space Wolves and the Ruinous Powers!

OK, all the standard caveats apply. Here’s the latest from Lucky Shot on Faeit

“Space Wolves campaign book is called “Curse of the Wulfen”

Also includes a decurion for Chaos Daemons"

“I’ve been told the SW will not get a new codex, but an expansion book – I guess similar to the last Tau update. There will be new models, but I have no details about them (yet)."
Earlier this week sources told BoLS that the Space Wolves are returning this year, but there are some big caveats:
"Look for the Space Wolves to return in the first half of the year, before summer arrives.
This will be a minor “reboxing release”
Look for some originally limited edition models to make their way into the standard SW range.
Look for mostly reboxings with updated bases and the like.
There is no current word on an updated codex."

At first look I would assume this would be the next product in the same vein as Kauyon or Mont’ka, though not as extensive. More intriguing is the potential for such a campaign book to be a linking product between a Space Wolves release that multiple sources are now talking about and a Chaos Daemons update. In any case both Space Wolves and Chaos Daemons would like to have a “Decurion”... what do you reckon it would look like?

Actually, if you think about it, this sounds like a 1-2 weeks kind of release sandwiched in between other larger releases, similar to say the Betrayal at Calth release window last year, or perhaps the Seraphon release, if there is a codex to go along with it...

Thank you for your time and until the next publication
